Matt is a broadly experienced General Surgeon, and passionate about quality, training, and assessment. He has an ongoing role at Middlemore Hospital on the elective and emergency general surgery service, which complements his private work.

Matt is an active teacher and has an honorary Associate Professorship at the University of Auckland. He enjoyed the role of Chief Medical Officer for Southern Cross Healthcare for four years. He has been the Chief Examiner in General Surgery for RACS New Zealand, after 9 years on the Court of Examiners, and has now become a Councillor for the College of Surgeons.

Matt is approachable and non-judgmental, an ally to the LGBTI+ community, and a proponent for equity in Aotearoa. He is happy to provide second opinions on all aspects of surgery and subsequently refer on to expert colleagues when needed.
