What to expect and bring 

Getting prepared for your visit

What you need to bring:

  • Your Information Folder (including your original forms if these have been scanned and emailed)
  • All documentation relating to your surgery, including letters, notes and medication cards from your doctor/s or other hospitals. This also includes test results, scans or x-rays you may have
  • All medication/drugs that you are currently taking.  This includes inhalers, injections, herbal remedies, vitamin supplements (please bring them in their original container)
  • Insurance or ACC approval letters (if applicable)
  • Any personal aids such as glasses, hearing aids, dentures, walking sticks etc

Day stay patients

We ask that adults bring comfortable and loose clothing (sleepwear is not required).

For children, we request that they wear their own clean, loose pyjamas to theatre. Please also bring along a spare set in the event they are needed.

Driving following surgery: Please note, it is important to know that operating a motor vehicle for the first 24 hours after surgery is not permitted following a general anaesthetic or sedation. Please ensure you have made arrangements for transport prior to your admission.

Inpatients (overnight or longer)

Please bring:

  • Comfortable sleepwear, dressing gown, slippers and personal toiletries
  • Comfortable change of clothes for departure
  • Reading material, phone and phone charger or other activities
  • Any other items are that important to your recovery (eg. Pillow)
