Penny McAllum is a consultant ophthalmic surgeon at the Manukau Superclinic and an Honorary Clinical Senior Lecturer at the University of Auckland. After training in Auckland, she spent two years at the University of Toronto, Canada, gaining extensive experience in corneal transplant, pterygium and complex cataract surgery – work recognised with the University’s ‘Best Fellow’ award – before furthering her skills in comprehensive ophthalmology in Surrey, England.
Penny has published 20 papers in peer-reviewed journals and regularly visits Niue Island to perform cataract and pterygium surgery for the local community. Married with two young children, she enjoys family bike rides, good food and travel.
