Jon Barnard is a New Zealand-trained colorectal, laparoscopic, and general surgeon. He works in private practice with the Auckland Colorectal Centre and as a Colorectal and General Surgeon at Te Whatu Ora Counties Manukau. Jon is dedicated to his patients and ensures that the care he provides is tailored to their problem and their needs.
Jon grew up in New Zealand and completed his medical degree at the University of Auckland before undertaking his surgical training with the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons. After attaining FRACS in General Surgery he was accepted onto the highly competitive Colorectal Surgical Society of Australia and New Zealand (CSSANZ) program for further specialist training in colorectal surgery. During his sub-specialist training Jon learned from world leaders in advanced pelvic cancer surgery, total neoadjuvant treatment for colorectal cancer, and minimally invasive colorectal surgery.
During his sub-specialty training, Jon was awarded the Philip Douglas Prize by the Australia and New Zealand Training Board in Colorectal Surgery. Jon is actively engaged in research in colorectal surgery and he has been invited to a number of international conferences to speak about colorectal practice and his research. Outside of the operating room, Jon is involved in training doctors and surgeons of the future, holding a position with the University of Auckland, and working as an instructor in surgical education.
Jon lives in Auckland with his wife and three children.
