Ben Wheeler is a laparoscopic bariatric and general surgeon who completed his surgical training in New Zealand before undertaking further specialist training at the Royal Brisbane & Women’s Hospital and with Weight Loss Surgery Hamilton.
Ben is a member of the Australia and New Zealand Metabolic and Obesity Surgery Society (ANZMOSS), sits on the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons’ Indigenous Health Committee and Maori Health Advisory Group, and is part of the New Zealand Medical Assistance Team that deploys to the Asia-Pacific region for disaster relief.
Ben whakapapas to Kai Tahu, Kati Mamoe and Waitaha, with ties to Takitimu maunga, and is proud to bring that connection into his work supporting Maori health through the RACS Indigenous Health Committee.
