Ormiston Hospital proudly welcomes Angela Shaw as its new Chief Executive Officer. Angela brings extensive experience in healthcare leadership, governance and strategic management across New Zealand’s health sector. Her appointment marks the beginning of a new chapter focused on clinical excellence, innovation and sustainable growth.
A whakatau was held this week to officially welcome Angela to the Ormiston whānau. Joined by members of the Board, leadership team, specialists and staff, the occasion provided an opportunity to connect, reflect and celebrate this new phase for the organisation.
Before moving into senior leadership, Angela began her career as a registered nurse – a background that continues to shape her people-first approach to healthcare. With a deep understanding of the patient journey and the vital role every team member plays in delivering exceptional care, she brings a strong focus on people, quality and collaboration. Her leadership will centre on strengthening partnerships across clinical teams, specialists and hospital services, ensuring our people are supported to deliver the best possible outcomes for patients. Angela is also committed to embedding consistent best practice across all areas of care, optimising theatre and service efficiency, and continuing to invest in innovation and technology that enhance patient safety and experience.
Angela’s appointment comes at an important time for Ormiston Hospital as we continue to expand our services and invest in new technology to meet the growing needs of our community. Her experience leading complex healthcare environments will help guide Ormiston through this next stage of development, supporting sustainable growth while maintaining the personal, patient-centred care we’re known for.
In her address at the Whakatau, Angela shared a Māori proverb that reflects her approach to leadership and care:
“He aha te mea nui o te ao?
He tangata, he tangata, he tangata.”
What is the most important thing in the world?
It is the people, it is the people, it is the people.

Angela also acknowledges the strong foundations laid by outgoing CEO Deb Boyd and Acting CEO Zoltan Varadi, and looks forward to working closely with our staff, specialists and partners to ensure Ormiston continues to grow as the preferred private surgical hospital for the South East Auckland community.
We’re delighted to have Angela on board and look forward to the energy, experience and thoughtful leadership she brings to Ormiston Hospital & Healthcare.
