Measles Update

At Ormiston Hospital our patients safety is paramount. With the ongoing measles outbreak in Auckland, all patients coming into Ormiston Hospital will now be verbally screened for measles. We are doing this to protect everyone.

We encourage everyone to check their immune status to this highly contagious disease and continue to be mindful of symptoms. If you know you are coming into Ormiston for a procedure and know you have been exposed to measles, please call ahead to let us know.

This includes people visiting Ormiston Hospital, please be mindful of measles symptoms if you are coming into the hospital to visit your loved one. The disease is highly contagious and we want to protect our patients. Remember, if you feel sick it is recommended to avoid public places to help prevent putting others at risk.

The team here at Ormiston Hospital have all been checked for current immunisation status – this means our staff are all up to date with their vaccinations. We have always been vigilant with hygiene and this has served us well at this time.

If you are not sure about your measles immunity, we encourage you to contact your GP, alternatively, you may request a new vaccination. Please visit the Ministry of Health for more information on prevention, symptoms and the disease.
