Bowled Over by Ormiston’s Support

Lawn Bowls has long been a popular sport in this country and Ormiston Hospital has been a proud sponsor of the Howick Bowling Club for over four years.

Tournaments are all year round, and Ormiston Hospital sponsored the Friday 15 November tournament – a well-attended date as it is a lovely way to spend a sunny afternoon.

Ormiston’s sponsorship means that the Club can continue to operate. There are significant costs in keeping the Club running as it is one of the only Clubs with three real grass greens – which requires a lot of care and maintenance. The club also has two all weather greens for play all year round. This also make Howick Bowls Club an attractive place to visit and compete with its premier real lawn experience.

Thanks to Ormiston Hospital’s sponsorship the club now owns an AED Defibrillator. A defibrillator is used in an emergency to treat a life-threatening cardiac event. Wally Mearns, Club Health and Safety Officer and a highly experienced retired paramedic, expressed; “We are hugely grateful for the defibrillator as it means that we have a high chance of saving someone’s life in an emergency situation.”

The members are mostly retirees, and for many of them bowls is a great way to keep active and social. The sport involves bending, manoeuvring, lifting, throwing, and mental concentration. A great way to keep the mind and body healthy.

In turn, members are also loyal to Ormiston Hospital and trust the experts at Ormiston for their healthcare needs. Ormiston is their chosen healthcare destination for a comfortable private hospital experience.
