Ormiston Celebrates International Day of Happiness

This year, for the first time, Ormiston Hospital decided to celebrate International Day of Happiness – a day dedicated to recognising the role that happiness and wellbeing play in our everyday lives. There’s no denying a sense of heaviness in 2026, so we wanted to take a moment, leave a few of our troubles behind and simply enjoy each other’s company.

This year’s theme touches on the impact social media can have on our wellbeing, and the importance of using it in a positive, meaningful way – something that feels especially relevant in 2026!

So, what better way to celebrate then to step away from the screens and spend some time outside in the sun with an ice cream in hand.

Cream came on site with their real fruit ice cream, made fresh to order and, as expected, very well received. It was a small way to say thank you to our team, who put in so much care and effort every day for our patients, and to bring a bit of extra happiness into the hospital. A simple reason for people to come together, share a few laughs and connect.

That wasn’t the only way we celebrated. We also had small notes of gratitude available for people to share with one another – simple messages, but a nice way to acknowledge the people around us. Outside, there was a bit of friendly competition with cornhole set up and some balloon popping for spot prizes, which gave people another reason to stick around and spend some time together.

The overall atmosphere was fantastic, and the leadership team so enjoyed the chance to give back to our staff. Special kudos to Trista who jumped in and helped with the ice-cream making! And Elizma of course who did a brilliant job organising the event and all our activities.

Such fun – bring on next year!
