Meet the Ormiston Hospital team on National Healthcare Assistant Day!

Celebrating National Healthcare Assistant Day 2023

On 15th June we celebrated the fantastic group of skilled and experienced Healthcare Assistants that work at Ormiston Hospital!

On this National Recognition Day for Healthcare Assistants, we thought it was the perfect time to introduce the community to some of our very own HCA’s that keep our hospital running smoothly.

First up, meet our Ward team.

Made up of Tazma, Elise, Deomer and Gaylene, these team members are dedicated to helping patients and colleagues. They work hard to ensure rooms are stocked with supplies so that we can run as efficiently as possible. They also go the extra mile to transport our patients – walking them safely to their car after their time at the hospital has come to a close.

Tazma has been a long-standing colleague at Ormiston Hospital and is hugely knowledgeable, whereas Elise is the newest member of the HCA team after recently completing her qualification in Health & Wellbeing (Level 4). Deomer is easy to track down in the hospital as he’s a keen whistler whilst he works, and Gaylene is well known for her baking skills which keep the team fueled on busy days.

Our Theatre HCA team is made up of Joyce, Rose and Monald:

  • Joyce has been with Ormiston Hospital since 2009! She takes huge pride in her work to always perform at a high standard and will go out of her way to help others. She is proactive, reliable, and hardworking, and with a hidden talent to remember specialists’ lunches to the minor detail and her telepathic skill to have them ready at the perfect time, every time (and she is the gatekeeper of the best biscuits).
  • Rose is a joy to the department and will often be seen in other departments to lend a helping hand. She is theatre’s restocking queen and bed making expert, and is well known for her pocket post-it notes.
  • Monald (our Movember Gentleman for 2022) is a pro with theatre setups and his bed traffic management skills are second to none (and he also has a wicked sense of humour).

As we continue to grow our Endoscopy services at Ormiston Hospital, we welcomed Ginny as our first designated HCA for Endoscopy earlier this year.

Ginny has a wide range of skills that ensure the smooth running of our endoscopy lists.  She is involved in patient transport, welcoming our patients into the procedure room, attaching them to monitoring and cleaning down between cases, as well as providing assistance during procedures with patient positioning and labelling of biopsies.  Ginny is key in ensuring service efficiency and can often be found restocking rooms, helping with barcode scanning and is even upskilling further to learn scope cleaning.

We want to take this opportunity to say a big ‘thank you’ to all of the Healthcare Assistants who work at Ormiston Surgical and Endoscopy – you are very much appreciated.
