Ormiston Hospital is an independently owned private surgical Hospital and is also a part of the Southern Cross joint venture scheme, whereby Southern Cross have a shareholding in the ownership of the Hospital, along with 50 or so other independent individuals and groups.

Ormiston Hospital is a proud member of the New Zealand Private Hospital Association and utilises the association’s considerable influence in the private health sector.

As a GP, you will be interested in providing your patients with as much information about our hospital as possible, when referring them to a specialist who works from Ormiston. We believe that the quality of care is paramount to our customers, both patients and surgeons and we pride ourselves on our outstanding clinical reputation in this region.

At Ormiston Hospital, we now have over 50 fully credentialed specialists, covering all specialities, other than Cardiac surgery and Neurosurgery. We ensure that we have only the best surgeons available in the region and can assure you that you will be referring your patients to highly qualified and experienced medical practitioners in their specialist field.

Insured patients

Ormiston will accept all medically insured patients from any of the various health insurance companies available in the market place.

It is recommended that your patients gain prior approval before they come to the Hospital for their procedure. Once the procedure has been performed, we will send them the hospital invoice which they then need to send to their insurers with the relevant claim form. The specialist and anaesthetist will also send their invoices separately, in most cases. Please ensure that your patient is aware that some policies do not cover all of the costs, so they need to be aware of what they may have to pay to meet the balance.

ACC patients

Ormiston has a Surgical Services ACC contract and generally the price of the procedure is fully covered by ACC. ACC will normally advise the patient if this is not the case. Ormiston’s Surgical Services contract covers the patients surgical treatment once approval has been received by ACC. The Ormiston specialist in charge of your patient’s case will arrange for the date and time of surgery at the Hospital. Once the surgery has been completed, the specialist will provide you and your patient with all information required. Self paying patients

Ormiston welcomes self funding patients and also offers a small range of fixed price procedures in various specialties, which the relevant specialists will be able to quote for at the initial consultation. To understand the price ranges for many of the procedures performed here, you can personally request an estimated range of prices via our online request form. Please note that these prices are estimates only and will not include the surgeon or anaesthetist fees, they are only indicative price ranges of the hospital fees only.

Affiliated Provider Contracts

Ormiston Hospital is an Affiliated Provider and includes surgeons or specialists who provide certain procedures at agreed prices, meaning we can then streamline the prior approval and claims processes for all Southern Cross members. For relevant procedures it is advised to always refer to a Southern Cross Affiliated Provider whenever possible.

GP Education

Ormiston is working hard with regional PHO’s, such as East Health, East Tamaki Health and Pro Care to ensure we can provide useful and relevant CME information through our surgical and endoscopy specialists as part of regular CME programmes.

We aim to provide all regional GP’s with new information every two months in the form of a GP newsletter. We hope to keep you updated of new services being offered at Ormiston by paying all GP practices a visit at least once a year to personally meet many of you and answer any questions you may have about our services on offer
